A message from John

My first introduction to kid’s triathlon was in the late 1980’s through the Kid’s of Steel program in which my own children participated in across Ontario. But it was at a kid’s race in Leamington where I got the idea to organize a Kid’s of Steel event in Windsor. Richard Kniaziew and his neighbourhood friends put on their own kid’s event out of their homes, using the backyard pool for the swim and the surrounding roads for the bike and run events. I decided that we needed one in Windsor and our first event was at St Clair College in 1988.

Windsor and Essex County fast became a hotbed for up and coming kids and adult events. Once we moved to Sand Point Beach in Windsor our numbers took off. Each year we have attempted to have a kid’s and adult race. In 2008, and for several years after that, we held a triathlon camp at Lacasse Park a few weeks before the races so that the kids could learn and practise skills they would need in the triathlon. In 2010, we moved the kid’s race to Lacasse Park and the adult race to Lakewood Park. As years went by, more kid’s triathlons were added and a series was formed. In our last year before the pandemic more than 530 kids in total participated. This is our first year back since the pandemic.

One of our main focuses each year has been to raise funds for the Hospice of Windsor of Essex County. I am happy to say that we have raised over $1,250.000 for them. We are looking forward to working with Kid’s Sport this year by raising funds to support their effort in making it possible for more kids in need to be able to participate in Sports.

Our Wonderful Sponsors - Thank You.

My thanks go out to Tim Horton’s, Subway and to Performance Ford for their support in our event over the past 30+ years.

This year, we have added Movati as our sponsor for the adult triathlon event on Sunday. Lincoln will be our sponsor for the Tecumseh Triathlon Weekend(kids and adults.) WFCU Credit Union, Adventure Bay Pure Flavor are the kids event’s sponsors. Gruppo Nutrition will sponsor our team relay Community Challenge Events.

I would like to also thank Wess Bechard for building our new website as an update was needed.

We look forward to seeing a great turnout at this year’s summer triathlons.
